JUNE JAZZ IN THE VINES
Picnic among the vines at the picturesque Joadja Estate on June 10th, 2018 from 1pm-4pm. Free music will be supplied by the energetic ‘Corner Pocket’ – fine musicians of cool jazz, southern soul, coastal blues and reggae roots!
Enjoy a rare convergence of fine musicianship, 
expressed through a songbook of classic tunes, with an edge of spontaneity & improvisation that keeps the band & the listener on the edge of their seats!
While holding ‘jazz’ in high esteem, Jenny B & Corner Pocket also reflect their audiences tastes by incorporating a range of blues, soul & reggae influences. With this creative flexibility the ‘jazz tradition’ ceases to be a strange straightjacket for the elite; instead it becomes a cool, comfortable & familiar coat for any occasion.
Jenny Blunden (voice) & Lachlan Mackenzie (guitar) have shared stages for 25 years & are best known as the creative partnership that created the South Coast’s premier jazz outfit, The Escalators.
Jenny’s gorgeous voice & irresistible stage presence combined with Lachlan’s vintage guitar tone, writing & arranging skills took a small town band (The Escalators) to national festivals (Noosa Jazz, Manly Jazz), Jazz Artist of the Year (2016) at the Australian Independent Music Awards, & two number 1 singles in the ‘blues & roots’ category of TripleJ Unearthed.
While Jenny took a break from performing in 2017 for the birth of their daughter Blossom, Lachlan started a brand-new project, Corner Pocket, with long-time collaborator Hayden Moore (drums) & rising star Mason Colley (bass). For the past 12-months Corner Pocket has built a reputation for their surprising & inventive all-instrumental interpretations of classic tunes from the fields of jazz, reggae & soul.
Wood-fired pizzas and cheese plates will be available for sale, so all you need to bring is a picnic blanket! Free wine tastings are available all day.
