Nick Rheinberger could be the most versatile entertainer in Australia. He’s not only a well-known radio announcer, he plays at pubs, theatres and festivals around Australia as an MC, a comedian, a children’s entertainer, poet, storyteller, blues singer and actor. With his band The Galvanisers, Nick plays swinging blues and other selections on his collection of odd instruments, including a miniature bouzouki and a slide guitar made from vintage Australian corrugated iron. Last year, Nick released his debut album “Do Tell”, produced by Shane Pacey at his studio in Bowral.

October long weekend Music in the Vines at Joadja Winery

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

From 1pm, SUNDAY 3rd OCTOBER 2010

The Shane Pacey Blues Trio

The Shane Pacey Blues Trio

The Shane Pacey Blues Trio

“The Guitar and Voice of The Bondi Cigars bringing it back home”

Shane Pacey-Guitar and vocals
Trudy Mackenzie-Bass and Vocals
Dave Sell-Drums

In a time when blues is in great danger of being swallowed by the all-encompassing term “roots music,” the very concept of a blues band seems to be almost a quaint idea.

The Shane Pacey Blues Trio is that rare (and becoming rarer!) thing, a dedicated blues band, rather than a solo star with supporting musicians.

Although Shane’s other band, The Bondi Cigars is still very much a going concern, Shane recently felt the strong urge to revisit the music that turned him on when he first started playing, such as the guitar playing and singing of Peter Green and the short sharp style coming out of Chess Records in the 50’s and 60s.

“The main aim,” states Shane “Is to create something totally different to The Cigars”

Bearing that in mind, people should not expect any Cigars material at an SPBT gig, but rather a no-nonsense trip through blues’ back pages, all played with Shane’s customary attack and passion.

Completing the trio..

Trudy Mackenzie, bass and vocals. Trudy’s main musical background is singing, with bands in Victoria, W.A. and Queensland. She has also played in a duo with Shane for the last five years, which is all very convenient, as they happen to be married!

Drummer Dave Sell’s most recent musical activities have been with Exeter Groove (whose CDs Shane produced) and ABC radio’s Nick Rheinberger (whose CD Shane also produced!)

The trio’s goal is to produce a big sound that aims for the soul and the feet.

“Don’t expect a polite little band tapping away in the corner,” says Shane.

..and he means it, too.

Come and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of music and wine in the vineyard.
